Urns in Scratch Art

Fourth grade students used the scratch art paper to plan their ideas for what would soon be a 3 - dimensional urn created in papier mache`.  Students began with a white piece of paper folded in half.   Half of the urn and details were drawn.  To create a symmetrical urn students folded the paper and rubbed the back until the lead design was transferred to the other side.  The completed urn was then transferred to the scratch art paper.  Students used a skewer, similar to a large toothpick, to scratch away the design.  The more design they added, the more colorful their urn became.
