First grade students have been discussing color. With our paint splats we created analogous colors. Analogous colors are defined as colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Students chose from a primary color (red, yellow or blue) next to a secondary color (green, orange and purple) on the color wheel. Yellow and orange, blue and green, or red and purple. Drops of paint were placed on the paper. Students were given coffee stirrers to blow the paint across the paper. Once the paper dried students used paper scraps to create a monster. We had artists, pirates, princesses and a variety of other fun monsters. A fun way to learn about analogous colors!
