Second grade students studied an american artist by the name of Georgia O'Keefe. We looked at how she zooms in on the flower, sometimes creating a picture that doesn't even look like a flower. We also discussed how to shade the petals to show shadows and highlights. Students were encouraged to create a contrasting background. If the flower was warm colors (red, yellow or orange) the background would be a cool color (blue, green or purple) to contrast the flower, or vise versa. Inspired by Georgia O'Keefe these flowers are bloomin'!
This is an amazing site. I am starting up an Art Group during lunchtimes at school for kids from Years 4-7. Your site is very inspirational and just gorgeous. Well done! I am a primary school teacher in Brisbane, Australia, who loves working with kids and creating!!
